FOX ESS PowerQ inverter · Tampa Bay

One 11.4 kW inverter at ground level, with a view of every panel on the roof.

The FOX ESS PowerQ 11.4 kW is the hybrid inverter at the heart of every FOX ESS system Fused installs. It runs up to 22.8 kW of solar on three independent trackers, charges the battery modules stacked beneath it with no cables between them, and reports to your phone. We pair it with Tigo on every panel, so you see each panel's output and the roof meets Florida's rapid-shutdown code without microinverters.

  • 11.4 kW continuous output, 22.8 kW of solar input, 3 MPPT trackers
  • 97.6% peak efficiency, 97.0% CEC, revenue-grade meter built in
  • Panel-level monitoring and rapid shutdown with Tigo TS4
  • Type 4X outdoor enclosure, under 35 dB, no cooling fan
  • 12.5-year manufacturer warranty, UL 1741 SA/SB, UL 9540

Independent panel monitoring

Every panel reports. The electronics stay off the roof.

Our service department spends a lot of days on Tampa Bay roofs replacing microinverters and optimizers that cooked in the heat. The PowerQ set-up keeps the power conversion in one Type 4X box at ground level where it stays cool and is easy to service, and puts only a Tigo TS4 under each panel. The Tigo does two jobs: panel-by-panel monitoring in its app, and the rapid shutdown the Florida electrical code requires. If a panel underperforms, you and we see which one, the same as a microinverter system, without a device that has to survive on the roof for 25 years to keep the power on.

Tesla's string inverter, by contrast

Tesla's solar inverter and Powerwall 3 report by string, not by panel, so a weak panel hides inside a string average until production drops enough to notice. We service a lot of Tesla systems; panel-level data is one of the first things owners wish they had. Tesla service and removal →

Inverter choices

PowerQ vs Tesla vs Enphase, on the inverter alone

FOX ESS PowerQ 11.4 kW Fused Tier 1

One hybrid inverter at ground level, 22.8 kW solar input, 3 MPPTs, battery stacks under it, Tigo panel-level monitoring, 12.5-year warranty. Our standard for new solar with battery.

Tesla Powerwall 3 / Tesla inverter

Powerwall 3 has a built-in 11.5 kW solar inverter with 6 MPPTs and 20 kW solar input, 10-year warranty, string-level monitoring. The standalone Tesla 7.6 kW inverter is what we quote for Tesla solar without a battery.

Tesla and FranklinWH options →

Enphase IQ8 microinverters

One microinverter per panel, native panel-level monitoring, no high-voltage DC on the roof. More devices on the roof to service, and batteries come in 5 kWh units. We install Enphase where a complicated roof calls for it.

How an install goes

From site review to permission to operate

Site review

Roof, main panel, service size, where the stack goes outside, what you want backed up and whether a generator is in the picture.

Design and permit

Engineering, the FOX ESS three-line diagram for your configuration, county permit and utility interconnection application.

Install

Panels with Tigo, PowerQ and battery stack on an exterior wall, Fox Hub G2, generator terminal if wanted. Usually two days.

Inspection and app

County inspection, utility permission to operate, FoxCloud and Tigo apps set up on your phone, photo report in your inbox.

Questions

The FOX ESS inverter, answered plainly

What is the FOX ESS PowerQ 11.4 kW inverter?

It is an all-in-one hybrid inverter: it converts the solar panels' DC power, charges and discharges the battery modules stacked directly under it, and feeds the house and the grid. The 11.4 kW model accepts up to 22.8 kW of panels on three independent trackers, so a large roof or a future addition fits without a second inverter.

Do I get monitoring on each solar panel?

Yes. Our FOX ESS systems use Tigo TS4 units on every panel, which give panel-by-panel production in the Tigo app and handle the rapid shutdown the Florida electrical code requires. The inverter itself reports whole-system production, battery state and grid flow in the FoxCloud US app. Tesla string systems only report at the string level; Enphase reports per panel through its microinverters.

Why not just use microinverters?

Microinverters put an electronic device under every panel, on a Florida roof at 150°F, and each one is a failure point you need a roof visit to reach. Our service department replaces a lot of them. The PowerQ keeps the power electronics in one Type 4X box at ground level, with Tigo on the roof doing only monitoring and shutdown. Enphase is a good system and we install it when a roof needs it; for most homes we prefer one inverter at ground level.

Can the PowerQ work without a battery?

It is designed as a solar-plus-battery system; the battery modules plug directly under it. If you want solar with no battery, we quote a standalone string inverter instead and can add FOX ESS storage later.

How long is the warranty?

12.5 years from FOX ESS on the inverter, the EQ4000 batteries and the Fox Hub G2, backed by Fused's workmanship warranty. We are an authorized FOX ESS installer and handle warranty service ourselves.

Does it work with my existing Tesla or Enphase solar?

A FOX ESS battery added to an existing array is an AC-coupled install, and the PowerQ AC1 models are built for that. We look at the existing inverter, the panel and the backup you want at the site review and tell you plainly whether FOX ESS, FranklinWH or Powerwall is the right fit.
